Get Heart Healthy and Happy with Kimberly Petrosino!

December 28, 2015

Author and health coach Kimberly knows a thing or two about heart health  -- her own father passed away from a heart attack just a few years ago.  This sudden loss prompted her to become an expert in happiness, heart health, and living life to its fullest.

Kimberly Petrosino is the author of "The Small Change Solution: A 52 Step Guide to Getting the Naturally Healthy Lifestyle You Want". She loves working with people who are ready to take control of their health and don't know where to begin, through her 6 Week Small Change Kickstart. For more information visit Happy Healthy Hearts or follow her on Twitter.

Q:  What is your personal health philosophy?

A:  My personal health philosophy is to take it one step at a time and

keep it fun. I like to say that a balanced lifestyle is equal parts happy

and healthy. Take one step toward bettering your health, and when

that feels natural, take another – and enjoy the process!

Q:  If you could only give one piece of health advice, what would it

be?

A:  My main piece of advice is to keep your changes small. If you attempt

to overhaul your entire lifestyle all at once, it will overwhelm you and

you’ll revert back to your old ways in a matter of time. Focus on the

step in front of you and not on the big picture. Once you start seeing

the benefits of your small changes, you’ll feel motivated to make

more!

Q: What are 3 foods you absolutely can’t live without?

A:  Brussels sprouts! It sounds crazy but once I gave them a chance I fell

in love!

My morning smoothie – it’s how I start every day and my morning

feels incomplete without it.

Annie’s Organics macaroni and cheese – it’s my ultimate splurge!

Q: What did you have for breakfast today?

A:  For breakfast I made a smoothie full of mixed greens, a banana,

frozen pineapple and chia seeds.

Q: What kind of exercise program do you follow?

A:  Running is my go-to exercise. When I’m training for a race, I run three

times a week at varying lengths and do one day of cross training.

When I’m not training, I hit the gym (or the pavement) three times a

week for 30-45 minutes. No matter what time of year it is, I always

walk for thirty minutes a day.

Q: What’s your beauty routine?

A:  I keep it simple. I use coconut oil-based cleanser and moisturizer,

and witch hazel as toner. My makeup consists of chapstick and

mascara. My skin tends to be sensitive so if I feel a breakout coming

on I’m sure to load up on kale in my smoothies and drink plenty of

water to keep my skin clean.

Q: What’s your favorite natural remedy?

A:  I use peppermint oil for basically everything! I breathe it in if I’m

feeling anxiety, to help me digest, and to soothe my stomach if it’s

bothering me.

Q: What are your top 3 health tips?

A:  Focus on adding healthy whole foods into your diet. Worrying about

what foods to eliminate is not the key to lasting results. As you begin

to nourish your body with whole foods and water, your cravings for

unhealthy foods will subside.

If you’re not a veggie lover, look for new ways to enjoy them. For

example, I don’t like eating peppers but I LOVE roasted red pepper

soup and hummus!

Incorporate more water into your routine – water is everything!

Q: Who has been your biggest inspiration?

A:  My dad is my biggest inspiration for everything. His sudden passing

two and a half years ago from a heart attack taught me that life is too

short to spend time doing anything you aren’t passionate about. It

also led me to educate myself about the importance (and ease!) of

taking good care of your heart.

Q: When it’s time to relax, what do you enjoy?

A:  I love to run, write, and relax with good friends and good food.
